On a steep rock above the municipality of Kipfenberg in Bavaria stands Kipfenberg Castle, a spur castle whose history dates back to the 12th century. Today it is a blend of historical substance and reconstruction.

History+

The origins of Kipfenberg Castle lie in the 12th century. In 1277, it was owned by the Knights Kropf, who subsequently called themselves Kropf von Kipfenberg and were previously ministerials of the Counts of Hirschberg. On September 11, 1301, Konrad, also known as Struma, sold the castle along with its possessions to the Prince-Bishopric of Eichstätt. During the secularization in 1803, the castle became state property and was subsequently sold to private individuals. From the 18th century onwards, the castle began to decay, leading to its extensive demolition in 1839.
