Klamm Castle

Klamm Castle is a castle in the municipality of Obsteig in the Imst district of Tyrol. It is located below the connecting road from Dormitz to Mötz. The complex is surrounded on three sides by steep slopes. Striking is the mighty round keep with its square battlements. The palas is lower and somewhat further away.

Klamm Castle was built between 1220 and 1230. It is first mentioned in a document in 1284 as belonging to the Count of Görz. In 1250, the Lords of Chlamm are mentioned as feudal lords of Petersberg, who had their burial place in the Holy Blood Chapel in the nearby Stams Abbey.

Until the end of the 13th century, Klamm was the center of administration for the possessions of the Prince-Bishopric of Augsburg. Subsequently, the castle came into the possession of Count Meinhard II of Tyrol, later to the Lords of Milser, whose most famous representative was Knight Oswald von Milser (Mils near Imst). In 1399, Klamm came to the Starkenbergers as an inheritance. As they rebelled against their sovereign Duke Frederick IV, they were disempowered in 1423. Klamm was administered or given as collateral.

After several changes of ownership in the 19th and 20th centuries, the German industrialist Hünnebeck bought the heavily dilapidated castle in 1956 and had it renovated. It is still owned by the family. On April 19, 2011, a fire destroyed the entire roof structure. The financial extent of the damage is not yet known.
