Kleeburg Castle

The origins of Kleeburg Castle probably lie in the 14th century. A first documentary mention dates to 1393, when the families von Bendeman and von Cleberg were named as owners. In the mid-15th century, the castle passed into the possession of the von Dadenberg family. In the late 16th century, specifically 1591 and 1594, the west and east towers were added. In 1671, the castle was divided among the families Gymnich von Vlatten, Gymnich von Gymnich, and the Barons von Rolligen. It was not until 1825 that Johanna Maria von Gymnich managed to reunite all shares. After her death, she bequeathed the castle to Baron Ludwig Joseph Spies von Büllesheim. A fire in 1894 led to alterations, during which parts of the south wing and the entire west wing were demolished.
