Castle Kleinbüllesheim
The Große Burg in Kleinbüllesheim, a district of Euskirchen in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Euskirchen, is a moated castle built in the 18th century. The listed castle is located on Luxemburger Straße.
The lordship of Kleinbüllesheim initially belonged to the lordship of Tomburg and later came to the Cologne Cathedral Chapter. The Große Burg came to the Wolff-Metternich zu Liblar family through marriage in the 19th century. In 1728, the medieval castle was demolished and a manor house was built according to plans by the master builder Johann Conrad Schlaun. Lothar Friedrich Adam Freiherr von Bourscheidt, chamberlain of Electoral Cologne, was the client.
Architecture+
The complex with a water enclosure consists of the late Gothic gatehouse, the farm buildings, and the manor house. The outer bailey, built of field-fired bricks, was partially renewed after a fire in 1756.
The manor house, a plastered brick building, occupies the northeastern corner of the complex. The three-axis central part connects the side parts projecting forwards and backwards. The two-story building is covered with mansard slate roofs. The corners of the building are rounded, and windows and doors are closed in a segmental arch.
