Kleinvernich Castle
Burg Kleinvernich, also known as Gürtzgensburg, is a former moated castle in Weilerswist, now serving as an agricultural estate. It is still surrounded by a complete moat.
History+
Old drawings from 1705 suggest that Burg Kleinvernich once had an outer bailey, while the small half-timbered manor house was already in ruins at that time. By the early 18th century, the late Gothic small castle was completely dilapidated. In 1610, the castle was mentioned as being owned by the von Gürtzgen family. Due to unmet requirements, it lost its eligibility for the Landtag in 1730. The current four-winged farmstead was rebuilt in 1781.
