Klevenow Castle

First documented in 1387, Klevenow Castle was a border fortress against the Duchy of Mecklenburg. In 1480, Duke Bogislaw X of Pomerania enfeoffed Hans von Wakenitz with the castle, which remained in this family's possession until the early 19th century. Carl von Wakenitz initiated construction work in 1627. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was a site of battles and was recorded as destroyed by 1697, though wall remnants of the south wing and two towers survived. In 1816, the castle passed to Carl Friedrich von der Lancken through marriage, who in 1848 had a manor house in the style of a neo-Gothic castle built on the remaining ruins. Simultaneously, a landscape park was created on the former ramparts.
