Klüsserath Castle
Klüsserath Castle, a moated castle, is situated on the Moselle in Rhineland-Palatinate. Its late Gothic architecture and a history dating back to Frankish times distinguish it.
History+
The origins of Klüsserath Castle lie in a royal crown estate of the Franks. In the 12th and 13th centuries, it developed into the moated castle, serving thereafter as the ancestral seat of the Barons of Kesselstatt. Emperor Maximilian visited in 1512, stopping here on his way to the Imperial Diet in Trier.

Today, the castle is privately owned and houses apartments. A late Gothic rectangular building made of unplastered quarry stone with a 7th-century vaulted cellar characterizes its appearance. A three-arched moat bridge leads into the complex.
