Kohlstein Castle

The construction of Kohlstein Castle is dated to 1486, presumably by Konz von Hirschaid. Originally conceived as free property of the Lords of Hirschaid, the feudal sovereignty later passed to the Diocese of Bamberg. In the Peasants' War of 1525, the castle suffered destruction but was quickly rebuilt. For financial reasons, the Hirschaid family sold the lordship in 1607/1608 to Wolf Philipp Groß von Trockau zu Tüchersfeld. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle was again damaged, leading to a new construction in 1636. A renovation took place between 1707 and 1714, during which a garden house was also built, later converted into a castle and village chapel in 1743.
