Kolossi Castle is located just a few kilometers outside Limassol in Cyprus. Its strategic importance for the administration of southern Cyprus was immense, and it also served as a central storage facility for sugar, a crucial export commodity of the island during the Middle Ages.

History+

The origins of Kolossi Castle date back to 1210, when Frankish troops erected the first structure. King Hugh III later transferred the land to the Knights of the Order of St. John (Hospitallers). From 1306 to 1310, the castle was under the control of the Templars before reverting to the Hospitallers. The structure visible today was rebuilt in 1454 by the Hospitallers under the direction of Grand Commander Louis de Magnac.
