Kost Castle

The Castle can be visited

Kost Castle, a remarkable medieval structure, rises in the heart of the Bohemian Paradise in the Czech Republic. It is known for its exceptionally well-preserved fabric and its unchanged silhouette since its completion, making it an outstanding example of the architecture of its time. Particularly striking is the so-called "White Tower".

History+

Kost Castle was first documented in 1349, when it was owned by Beneš of Wartenberg, who is also considered its builder. His son Peter completed the construction, whose external appearance has hardly changed since then. Around 1414, the castle passed into the possession of the Zajíc of Hasenburg family. Between 1497 and 1524, the Schellenbergers inhabited the complex and extended it with a western wing. By the mid-16th century, the Bieberstein Palace was added on the way to the castle. Under the rule of the Lobkowicz family, which lasted until 1576, the fortified outer bailey buildings were constructed and integrated into the castle.

Location+

Kost Castle is situated at an elevation of approximately 269 m above sea level in Mladějov, in the Karlovarský kraj (Carlsbad) district of the Severovýchod (Northeast) region in the Czech Republic.

Kost Castle is currently in excellent condition and is owned by the Kinsky family. Visitors have the opportunity to explore the historic complex and delve into the past. Its impressive backdrop also served as a filming location for the 2007 movie "Hannibal Rising – How It All Began".
