Krakau Castle (Krefeld)
Krakau Castle, a former moated castle, is located in the Bismarckviertel of Krefeld's Krakau district. Although only parts of it remain today, it has a past in the region.
History+
Krakau Castle was built around the year 1400. During the 15th and 16th centuries, it experienced numerous changes of ownership, caused by inheritances, pledges, or armed conflicts. The castle eventually lost its military significance, leading to its demolition in 1677 by William III of England, the last of the House of Orange. In the second half of the 18th century, a new castle was erected on the site of the former stronghold, but this was destroyed in 1943 during World War II.

Today, Krakau Castle is privately owned. A section of the outer wall of the original complex is still preserved.
