Küchen Castle (Ahlen)

The first documented mention of Burg Küchen appears in 1392 in the feudal registers of the Counts of the Mark. At that time, the property, surrounded by a moat, was owned by the von Cloedt family. In 1502, the Cleves-Markish fief passed into the possession of the von Mallinckrodt family through the marriage of the heiress Elseke to Hermann von Mallinckrodt, who held the estate for over three centuries. In 1829, the house passed by inheritance to Johann Henrich Rath, a judicial commissioner from Sassenberg. Later, in 1868, Auguste Rath sold the castle to Ferdinand Limbrock. Between 1962 and 1965, the complex underwent restoration with the support of the State Conservator of Westphalia-Lippe.
