In Rhineland-Palatinate stands Ließem Castle. Originally mentioned in the 11th century, it was fought over, destroyed, and rebuilt multiple times. Today, it is privately owned.

History+

An earlier structure at this site was already mentioned in the 11th century. In 1316, a castle named “Leyseim” was referred to as a Luxembourgish feudal seat of the Count of Schönecken. The complex later came into the possession of the Trier Elector Balduin, who had it destroyed in the mid-14th century. The castle was subsequently rebuilt.
