Ließem Castle

A predecessor building is already mentioned in the 11th century. A castle "Leyseim" was named in 1316 as a Luxembourg feudal seat of the Count of Schönecken. This later passed into the possession of the Trier Elector Balduin of Trier, who destroyed it in the mid-14th century. The castle was subsequently rebuilt. Until the French invaded in the early 19th century, the Ließem dominion was under Luxembourg sovereignty. Ließem Castle became the seat of the Biersdorf Mairie in 1803, which in 1816 became the Prussian mayoralty of Biersdorf of the same name.
