In the town of Lüdinghausen in the Coesfeld district is a moated castle. It is one of three castle complexes in the urban area and stands as an example of the evolution from a medieval fortress to a Renaissance castle.

History+

Lüdinghausen Castle was built in the 12th century as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Lüdinghausen. A transformation occurred in the 16th century under Gottfried von Raesfeld, who had the complex converted into a Renaissance castle. Details from this period include a stone-carved list of food prices from 1573/74, various coats of arms, and an inscription commemorating the town fire of 1569.
