In the eponymous district of Niederkassel stands Lülsdorf Castle. It adorns the coat of arms of Niederkassel. Its origins date back to the 12th and 13th centuries, when it served as the ancestral seat of the Lords of Lülsdorf.

History+

Lülsdorf Castle was built in the 12th and 13th centuries and established itself as the residence of the Lords of Lülsdorf. In 1380, the bailiwick of Lülsdorf became part of the Duchy of Berg. Around 1530, the castle became the administrative seat of the Löwenberg office. After various changes of ownership, the new Lülsdorf office was formed in 1446, encompassing the parishes of Lülsdorf, Volberg, Mondorf, and Bergheim. The bailiwick of Lülsdorf, later renamed Amt Lülsdorf, functioned as an administrative center.
