Medinghoven Castle
In the Bonn district of Duisdorf is Medinghoven Castle, once a moated castle. Today, it presents itself as a listed, villa-like manor house, which may represent the remains of a former village.
History+
The lowland castle, known as Mettekoven, Metinghoven, or Medekoven, was inhabited by various knightly families, including the Lords of Meynwege, the Lords of Ilem, and the Nesselrode family. After 1834, Baron Wilhelm von Neuffille had the original castle buildings demolished and erected the current Neo-Gothic manor house in their place. A northern wing of the building was added in 1896. After the First World War, the petrochemical engineer Adolf Spilker acquired the property, which has remained in the possession of his descendants ever since.
