Medinghoven Castle

Medinghoven Castle was originally a moated castle in Duisdorf, part of today's Bonn district of Hardtberg. The current building is a protected architectural monument.

In the past, the lowland castle was also referred to as Mettekoven, Metinghoven, and Medekoven. It is probably the remnant of a former village. Over the centuries, the castle was inhabited by various knightly families, including the Lords of Meynwege, the Lords of Ilem, and the von Nesselrode family.

The current villa-like manor house was built after 1834 by Baron Wilhelm von Neuffille in the Neo-Gothic style. He had the old castle buildings demolished for this purpose. The northern wing of the building dates from 1896. After the end of the First World War, the petrochemical engineer Adolf Spilker acquired the estate, which has been in the family possession of his descendants ever since.
