Pieniężno Castle

Mehlsack Castle (Polish Zamek w Pieniężnie) was a castle of the Warmian Cathedral Chapter in Mehlsack, today's Polish Pieniężno.
Structure+
Mehlsack is one of the early bishop's and chapter castles still built with an irregular floor plan. The castle's floor plan is an irregular trapezoid. The four-story, 47.5 m long main wing in the west has been preserved in its medieval substance. The castle also includes a lower side wing in the north. Noteworthy is the upper storage and defensive floor of the main wing with thirteen original window openings each.
History+
The name Mehlsack goes back to the name of the Prussian castle Malcekuke, which came into the possession of the Cathedral Chapter in 1288. The stone masonry dates from the second quarter of the 14th century. The wars of 1414, 1520 and the Swedish occupation in 1626 damaged the castle. Between 1626 and 1643, the castle was rebuilt, as evidenced today by the gables of the west wing, which bear the Renaissance style. Until 1945, the castle was used as the seat of the district court.
