The origins of Mengeringhausen Castle date back to the 13th century, first mentioned in a document in 1382. At first glance, little remains of the former fortifications of the medieval moated castle of the Counts of Waldeck. From 1696 to 1728, the castle was the seat of the Waldeck government, which then moved to the newly built Arolsen Residence. After several fires, including in 1929 and 1960, the building today presents itself renovated as a hotel and restaurant.
