In Mengeringhausen, North Hesse, stands Mengeringhausen Castle. Originally a moated castle, it transformed from a medieval noble residence into a modern hotel and restaurant.
History+
The origins of Mengeringhausen Castle date back to the 13th century, with its first documented mention in 1382. It served as a moated castle for the Counts of Waldeck. Between 1696 and 1728, the castle was the central seat of government for the County of Waldeck, before the administration relocated to the newly built Arolsen Residential Palace. After fires, including incidents in 1929 and 1960, the building was renovated and redesigned.
