Möckmühl Castle, also known as Götzenburg, is a high medieval hilltop castle in Möckmühl in the Heilbronn district of Baden-Württemberg and once served as a strategic point on important trade and customs routes.

History+

The exact time of the castle's construction is unknown, but its founding is attributed to the noble free lords of Dürn. The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1251. After the death of Konrad von Dürn in 1258, it passed to his widow Mechtild, who resided there for 18 years. Through the marriage of Mechtild's grandson Poppo von Dürn to Agnes von Hohenlohe, ownership changed to the Hohenlohe family in 1287, where it remained until 1445. An event was the killing of Duke Ludwig's son by Albrecht von Hohenlohe in 1290 during a tournament, which he sought to atone for through extensive donations.
