Molbach Castle, once a motte-and-bailey castle, is now located at the entrance to Obermaubach. Once an administrative seat of the forest count, only a few traces remain today of its former political significance.

History+

The construction of Molbach Castle, named after the flowing Mühlbach (today Rinnebach), dates back to Count Albert von Nörvenich. From 1152 onwards, he referred to himself as Albert von Molbach in all documents. Between 1400 and 1800, the complex was owned by the Knights of Vlatten, who belonged to the House of Merode. In 1637, the old count's castle in Molbach was rebuilt. Later, the Lords of Quandt and von Spies were also among the owners of the castle.
