Neuhaus Castle

The origins of Burg Neuhaus date back to the mid-14th century when it was built as a fief by the Stubenberg family. The first documented mention appears in 1375, referring to a Hans von Neuhaus. From 1663, the Counts of Wurmbrand took possession of the castle and fortified it to counter threats from the Turks and Kurucs. Later, the administration of the estate was moved to Schielleiten. Around 1800, the castle suffered destruction due to a lightning strike, leading to two centuries of decay. However, thanks to its construction, revitalization could begin in 1982. The medieval residential tower, also known as the keep, is now restored, while work on two outbuildings is still in progress.
