In the northern Upper Palatinate, Neuhaus Castle is a spur castle distinguished by its unique “Butter Churn Tower.” This freestanding tower, with its massive base and narrower upper section, gives the complex an unmistakable silhouette. Originally conceived as a fortified hunting lodge, it now houses a museum.

History+

Around 1300, Landgrave Ulrich I of Leuchtenberg had Neuhaus Castle built. The complex was pledged to Waldsassen Abbey multiple times, first in 1328. The complete sale to the abbey took place in 1515 by Landgrave Johann IV of Leuchtenberg.
