Nordenbeck Castle

Nordenbeck was first mentioned in 1036 as an outpost of the Paderborn manor in Korbach. The Lords of Nordenbeck, vassals of the Counts of Itter, built the moated castle in the 13th century, which was first documented in 1306. In 1346, Kurt I von Viermünden, lord of Hallenberg Castle, acquired the complex and established it as the ancestral seat of his noble family in 1368. After the original Lords of Nordenbeck died out in 1380, Brosecke von Viermünden built a six-story residential tower in 1412. Between 1443 and 1453, a residential building was erected next to the tower, allowing access to the tower via a drawbridge on the second floor.
