Oberrommental Castle
On an elevation in the Schlater Forest near the hamlet of Rommental is Oberrommental Castle, a former hilltop castle. From its elevated position, it once monitored an important trade route.
History+
Around the year 1250, the Knights of Böhringen, who served as ministerials to the Spitzberg-Helfenstein lords, constructed Oberrommental Castle. Its location suggests it was built to control an early trade route connecting Oberböhringen with Süßen, thus forming an important link between Ulm and Schwäbisch Gmünd. In 1396, the castle was sold and became the property of the Imperial City of Ulm.

Today, only remnants of Oberrommental Castle remain. The castle site still shows the original neck ditch and minor wall remains, including parts of a shield wall. A forester's hut is also located on the premises.
