Orb Castle

Orb Castle was first documented in 1064. Initially owned by the Lords of Büdingen, it was later integrated into the town's fortifications. From 1328, when Orb belonged to the Electorate of Mainz, the castle served as the administrative seat for the Mainz bailiffs. In 1428, it was pledged to the Counts of Hanau, but the pledge was redeemed in 1566. Archbishop Daniel Brendel von Homburg initiated a renovation of the castle in the Renaissance style around 1570. The palace temporarily served as a residence for the noble family von Milchling. A tithe barn was added to the west side in 1621.
