Burg Ostendorf, once a significant knight's estate, is located in the Lippramsdorf district of Haltern am See.
History+
The first documented mention of Burg Ostendorf dates back to April 18, 1316. At that time, Knight Bernhard Bitter and his wife Gertrudis de Ostendorp made the complex an 'Offenhaus' (open house) for Bishop Ludwig II of Hesse from Münster. In 1358, ownership passed to Johann von Raesfeld. The castle was temporarily a fief of the County of Ravensberg and the Essen Abbey. The von Raesfeld family held the moated castle for over four centuries. Following bankruptcy in 1825, the knight's estate fell to Count August Ferdinand von Merveldt zu Lembeck. A fire in 1934 significantly altered the appearance of the complex.
