Foundation and Early Ownership
Bishop Otto von Rietberg had the castle built in 1294. Subsequently, it belonged to the Bishops of Paderborn. In 1378, it came into the possession of the von Spiegel family, where it was to remain until 1900. In 1510, they ordered a new construction of the castle. In the following centuries, it was rebuilt and extended several times until its current use for residential purposes.
