Rabenstein Castle

The origins of Rabenstein Castle date back to the early 12th century, when it was established as a seat within the lordship of Waischenfeld. At the same time, the ministerial family of Rabenstein emerged, considered the builders of the castle and bearing a raven in their coat of arms. In the early 13th century, the outer bailey was expanded. Ownership changed hands, including the families of Schlüsselberg and the Burgraves of Nuremberg. In 1450, the castle was devastated during the First Margrave War, but was rebuilt from 1489 by Konz von Wirsberg. In 1557, the castle returned to the von Rabenstein family, who thus regained their ancestral seat. Daniel von Rabenstein had the complex rebuilt again in 1570, merging the outer bailey with the main castle.
