Redinghoven Castle (Friesheim)

The estate was first documented in 1399 as "Braunsgut," a fief of the Cologne Cathedral Provost. After the death of its then-owner Wieland Braun in 1466, the castle changed hands several times, including to the Beissel von Gymnich and von Meller families. Through the marriage of Iburg von Meller to Peter Wolff von Metternich, the castle remained in the possession of the Wolff von Metternich family for several generations. At the end of the 16th century, specifically in 1599, it came into the possession of Hans Philipp von Hoheneck through marriage. In 1670, ownership passed to the Cologne family von der Juden. Their descendant Franz Konstantin bequeathed the castle to his wife Margarethe von Wymar, who married Baron von Redinghoven in 1736, whose name the castle still bears today. After further changes of ownership, including to the von Wymar family and later to Franz Josef Litz in 1801 during the French period, the castle is now in private hands.
