In Reinstädt, southwest of Jena, stands Burg Reinstädt, a residential tower from the early Renaissance. It once served to protect the noble court and the surrounding villages, as well as to monitor access to the Saale valley.

History+

The origins of a noble seat in Reinstädt date back to 1083. The current five-story residential tower was documented as being built in 1408. It is structurally connected to the neighboring fortified village church. The term “Kemenate” refers to the heated living spaces inside the tower. Today, no traces of former ramparts, moats, or a connection to the Reinstädter Bach are discernible.
