Riedheim Castle

Riedheim Castle, also known as Burgstall, is a medieval castle on the eastern edge of Riedheim at the corner of Burgstraße/Turmstraße in the municipality of Hilzingen in the Konstanz district of Baden-Württemberg.
The local castle was built in the 13th to 14th century and was owned by the Lords of Randegg. The castle was allegedly damaged in the Swiss War, and around 1500, the residential tower was presumably raised and the courtyard portal expanded. In 1518, the castle was owned by Hans von Schellenberg and in 1609 by Konrad Vintler von Plätsch. In 1601, ownership passed to Archduke Leopold of Austria and in 1735, through sale, to Petershausen Monastery. In 1803, the castle came into the possession of the Margraves of Baden and was sold to the municipality of Riedheim in 1841.
After the tower roof collapsed and the upper gable broke off on May 20, 1951, the attic was restored in 1957. The castle was restored from 1976 to 1978.
Description+
The rectangular castle complex comprises a curtain wall of approximately 38 by 27 meters with a rectangular residential tower in the middle with late Gothic stepped gables. The four-story residential tower, with a base area of approximately 12.35 by 8.7 meters, has a height of 27 meters with the entrance at a height of 4.5 meters. The wall thickness of the tower shows a thickness of 1.5 meters on the ground floor and a thickness of one meter from three meters high.
The curtain wall has a thickness of approximately 1.2 meters, with sheds built on its inside. The round-arched entrance (around 1550) is on the west side. The castle was surrounded by a moat and presumably a rampart. The castle can only be viewed from the outside.
