West of Silz, Sankt Petersberg Castle is a historical structure in Tyrol. Originally built by the Welfs as an administrative hub, it now serves as a monastic house.

History+

The origins of Sankt Petersberg Castle date back to 1196 when it was first documented under the name “Neuhaus.” The Welfs constructed it as the central administrative seat for their Tyrolean possessions. The castle came into the possession of the Counts of Tyrol. From 1228, the name “Petersberg” is attested. Meinhard II initiated renovations, elevating the castle to a judicial and administrative center for the Inn Valley, the Mieming Plateau, and the Ötztal.
