Burg Schadeleben, also known as Schloss Schadeleben or Burghof Salzelmen, is a structure in Schönebeck-Bad Salzelmen. Originally built as a medieval fortress, it now serves as a nursing home.

History+

The origins of Burg Schadeleben date back to the early 14th century. Between 1310 and 1319, Archbishop Burchard III of Magdeburg had the complex constructed. In 1533 and 1804, it was expanded and redesigned in the style of a castle. However, part of the structure was demolished in 1874. During World War II, archives were stored in a nearby salt mine, and in 1950, the city archive moved into a castle building. From 1961, the complex was used as a nursing home, after having temporarily served as a reception center for resettlers.
