Schaubeck Castle

The first documented mention of Schaubeck Castle dates back to 1272. At that time, the ministeriales Bertold and Konrad von Schaubeck began constructing the complex on a steep slope, building upon the foundations of a Roman country house. In 1392, the castle, along with the village of Kleinbottwar, changed hands and was sold to Hans Urbach. After a brief interlude by the Truchsessen von Stetten in 1435, Georg von Nippenburg took possession of the castle. A renovation into a palace began after 1480 under Dietrich von Plieningen, Nippenburg's son-in-law, and lasted until 1642. Following the extinction of the male line of the Plieninger family in 1645, the castle passed to the Lords of Gaisberg through the daughters, who then sold it to the Lords of Kniestedt. Between 1749 and 1765, the facades with painted corner blocks were created.
