Schladen Castle, a structure in the municipality of Schladen-Werla, is linked to the history of the Ottonian royal palace of Werla. Originally established as a supply yard for the palace, the complex developed into a fortress in the Lower Saxony region.

The origins of Schladen Castle lie in a supply yard for the royal palace of Werla, which fell into disrepair around 1200. Bishop Udo of Hildesheim had the complex expanded into a castle and appointed Eiko von Dorstadt as Vogt, who subsequently adopted the name "von Schladen". The castle remained in the possession of this family until 1353, before it passed to the Prince-Bishopric of Hildesheim. After the Hildesheim Diocesan Feud in 1523, it came into the possession of the Dukes of Wolfenbüttel, but was restituted to the Prince-Bishopric of Hildesheim in 1643. Following a fire in 1699, a Catholic church was built on the site in 1728.
