Schlanstedt Castle
Schlanstedt Castle, originally a fortified complex, is situated on the southwestern edge of the Schlanstedt district in the municipality of Huy. This site in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt is an example of the evolution from a medieval castle to a Renaissance palace.
History+
The origins of Schlanstedt Castle date back to the 11th century, when it was built by the Lords of Schlanstedt to secure an important crossing over the Große Bruch. The complex was first documented in 1267. In the early 14th century, the castle was acquired by the Bishopric of Halberstadt for 600 Brunswick Marks from the von Spiegel family, under Bishop Count Albrecht von Wernigerode. In 1524, it was expanded under the Counts of Regenstein, followed by a conversion of the round castle into a Tafelgut by the Halberstadt bishops.
