Burg Schlitz is a neoclassical manor house distinguished by its architectural elegance and expansive landscape park. Originally an old castle complex, it was transformed into an estate at the beginning of the 19th century and now serves as a hotel.

History+

The history of Burg Schlitz begins with Hans von Labes, who adopted the name Graf von Schlitz genannt Goertz through adoption. Around 1806, he had the existing, dilapidated castle demolished. Under his patronage, a three-winged neoclassical manor house was built according to plans by Otto Hirt and under the direction of Friedrich Adam Leiblin. This building, considered the largest neoclassical complex in Mecklenburg, was completed along with the surrounding park and the Karolinenkapelle by 1824. Hans von Schlitz was involved in the planning and designed the park himself. After his death in 1831, the estate passed to Heinrich Graf von Bassewitz-Schlitz.
