Schmitthof Castle (Lehrbach)

Schmitthof Castle (Lehrbach)

To be privately owned

Burg Schmitthof is a former moated castle in the Gleental valley northwest of the Lehrbach district of the city of Kirtorf in the Vogelsbergkreis in Hesse.

On the site of an old deserted village (Reissdorf, deserted in 1427) from the 14th century, a branch of the Schenck zu Schweinsberg built this moated castle in 1538. It was restored in 1977/79 and is now privately owned.

The castle complex consists of a residential building, an encircling wall with four corner towers, three of which are preserved. The moat has since been filled in.
