Schwalenberg Castle

The origins of Schwalenberg Castle date back to the 13th century when it was built by the Counts of Schwalenberg and completed around 1225. The town of Schwalenberg also emerged around this time. In the 15th century, the castle changed hands multiple times through pledges to various noble families. Later, it served as a residence for collateral lines of the House of Lippe. Between 1627 and 1628, a Late Renaissance castle was built in its place, of which one wing still exists today. This wing underwent extensive renovation between 1911 and 1913.
