Schwarzach Castle

The moated castle Schwarzach, also called Schloss Schwarzach, Veste Schwarzach or Neckarschwarzach, is a partially preserved moated castle at 231 m above sea level on the edge of Schwarzacherhof, a district of the municipality of Schwarzach in the Baden-Württemberg Neckar-Odenwald district.

Presumably, the moated castle Schwarzach was built at the beginning of the 14th century by the Diocese of Worms, and the fief was transferred from Konrad von Weinsberg to the Electoral Palatinate in 1319. Until the outbreak of the Thirty Years' War in 1618, the Schwarzach fief passed to, among others, the Landschad von Steinach, the Lords of Hanschuhsheim, and the Lords of Helmstatt. The castle fell into disrepair. In 1634, an official cellar was built in it, but the complex was not maintained.

In 1780 and 1800, the castle was rebuilt and the present manor house was erected. The castle came into Baden possession and is still used today as a state forester's house.
