Sehusa Castle

Sehusa Castle was built in 1255 on the walls of an old Welf castle and first mentioned in a document in 1282. A new building was constructed in 1592. In 1673, the castle was damaged by a fire and subsequently rebuilt. In 1870-85, the side wings were added.

The castle chapel was built in 1313 and is one of the oldest parts of the castle complex. It was originally consecrated to St. George. Inside, there are impressive frescoes from the 14th century depicting scenes from the life of Jesus.

The Great Hall, also known as the Knights' Hall, was built in the 16th century and served as a venue for banquets and celebrations. It is characterized by its magnificent wooden ceiling and a large fireplace. Today, it is used for cultural events and weddings.

The castle garden was laid out in the 18th century as a baroque garden. It features geometrically arranged flowerbeds, fountains, and sculptures. In the 19th century, parts of the garden were redesigned into an English landscape garden.

Opening Hours and Admission

The castle is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission for adults is 8 euros, reduced admission is 5 euros. Family tickets are available for 20 euros.

Guided Tours

Guided tours of the castle take place daily at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes and provides insights into the history and architecture of the castle. Registration is not required.
