Seinsfeld Castle

The exact time of origin of Seinsfeld moated castle is unknown. Its first documented mention was in 1325, when King John of Bohemia transferred the castle to Count Arnold von Blankenheim. The oldest surviving structural elements date from the 15th century. Between the 17th and 18th centuries, the complex underwent renovations. In 1794, Baron Ernst von Berg sold the castle to the notary Lothar München. After further changes of ownership in the early 19th century, including to Carl Leist and Heinrich Carl Hellermann, the castle was also called Hellermannsfeld Castle. A demolition of the west wing took place in 1890, but around 1935 and 1949, this area was rebuilt. After the Second World War, the castle temporarily served as a children's recreation home.
