Siegendorf Castle

The castle of Siegendorf presumably dates back to the 13th century. It was first mentioned in 1366 as a curia. As excavations showed, it was originally a moated castle.

Among the most famous families who owned Siegendorf or Peresnje, as it was called until 1456, in the Middle Ages were the Veszekény/Cziraky. They owned the lordship from 1291 to 1456. Afterwards, Siegendorf was in the possession of Ulrich von Grafeneck. Ulrich von Grafeneck united Siegendorf with his lordship Landsee. Both possessions temporarily came into the possession of the Archbishop of Gran, Nikolaus Olah, in the 16th century. From 1548, Hans von Weisspriach was Lord of Siegendorf.

In 1550, he sold the lordship to his relative Erasmus Teufel. In 1612, the two lordships came to the Esterházy family, with whom Siegendorf remained until 1860. In 1973, the municipality acquired the already heavily dilapidated building and began restoration work in 1975. It was developed into a cultural center. In recent years, it has been structurally united with the adjacent town hall.
