Stefling Castle

Stefling Castle (Seveninga; Stefninge; Steuininga) is first mentioned in 991 as being owned by Count Papo of Regensburg. The lineage of the Counts of Papo died out around 1194. Ownership transferred to the Bavarian Dukes of Wittelsbach. In 1318, ownership transferred to the Hofer von Lobenstein and in 1329 to the Wittelsbachers of the Palatinate line. In 1428, the castle was besieged by the Hussites, but they were unable to capture it. The castle was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. In 1656, ownership transferred to Christoph von Münster, who rebuilt the castle. In 1748, the castle was expanded and renovated. Another renovation took place in 1859. In the 19th century, ownership transferred to the Counts of Mühle-Eckart.
