A spur castle stands on the Schlossberg in the municipality of Straßberg. The privately inhabited complex was once strategically located on an important ascent of the Swabian Alb.

History+

Around 1150, an initial feudal castle was erected at this site, directly on the old Roman road from Sulz to Laiz. This original structure differs from the visible building today. From the mid-13th century onwards, the castle was gradually expanded into its current form. Among its later owners were the Lords of Westerstetten, who held the castle between 1532 and 1625. In 1597, they had the complex transformed into a mountain castle designed for high living comfort.
