Streichenberg Castle

Streichenberg Castle was likely constructed between 1282 and 1287 by Swicker von Gemmingen, who served as royal bailiff in Wimpfen at the time. It was the fourth castle of the Lords of Gemmingen in the region. In 1357, an Albrecht von Enzberg, known as von Streichenberg, first appeared. In 1385, the Lords of Mentzingen received three-quarters of the castle as a fief. After a return to the possession of the Gemmingen family through a pledge in 1391, the castle passed to the Lords of Angelach, who expanded it into a fortified complex between 1448 and 1560, and subsequently to the Lords of Neipperg. In 1596, the castle became property of the Electoral Palatinate. Following the wars of the 17th century, which led to its destruction, Streichenberg Castle was enfeoffed to the Counts of Degenfeld-Schomburg in the 18th century.
