Streversdorp Castle

The first documented mention of Streversdorp Castle dates to the early 14th century, when Goswin (van) de Treversdorp was named as its owner. In 1350, ownership passed to Kerstiaen van den Knavel from Aachen, followed by Reinhard von Wilde, who held the castle until 1380. Around 1400, the castle changed hands through marriage to Jacques Gabot and later to Gerard van Macrelaer. In 1475, Jean van den Horrick was the owner. Through the marriage of his daughter Anne to Hans von der Heyden, the castle came into the possession of the von der Heyden genannt Belderbusch family in 1530, who held it for two and a half centuries. A prominent owner was Baron Caspar Anton von der Heyden genannt Belderbusch, who was elevated to count in 1782, giving the castle its nickname “Graaf Castle.” In 1810, Arnold-Antoine (de) Thiriart acquired the property.
