Thorr Castle, a historic country estate, is located in the eponymous district of Bergheim in the Rhein-Erft-Kreis, North Rhine-Westphalia. Originally situated at an important crossing of the Roman Via Belgica over the Erft river, it bears witness to a long history and stands today as a remarkable example of regional architectural heritage.

History+

The first mention of the locality as "Ture" dates back to 997, while a knight Rudolf von Turre is named in 1140. The lords of Thorr Castle were traditionally enfeoffed by the Counts of Jülich, and the castle was one of 238 Jülich knightly seats. In 1506, ownership passed to the von Weworden family through marriage. The current manor house was built in 1680 by Bernhard Kox and Sybilla Catharina von Weworden.
