Tittmoning Castle

The exact construction period of Tittmoning Castle in the 12th or 13th century by the Lords of Titmoningen is not definitively known. Its first documented mention occurred when the Archbishopric of Salzburg acquired the complex as a border fortification against Bavaria. In 1324, the castle was captured by Emperor Louis the Bavarian during a conflict but was sold back to the Archbishopric of Salzburg in 1327. In the second half of the 15th century, it was expanded into a fortress in the late Gothic style, likely including the construction of a granary. After damage by Bavarian troops in 1611, the castle was briefly handed over to Duke Maximilian I before returning to the Archbishopric of Salzburg in 1614.
