The first written mention of the locality Podhradie, originally named Hornouc, dates back to 1245. With the construction of Topoltschan Castle in the late 13th century, directly above the village, the settlement gained considerable importance and developed into a significant castle-front village. However, this central role ended in the 18th century when the administration of the Topoltschan dominion was relocated to Tovarníky.
